Together we create the vision of a better world

It’s that time again. Christmas Eve is just around the corner. For me, that means contemplation, festive joy, and, above all, people who I care about. There is probably no more fitting occasion than the feast of togetherness, to give you a tour through LEROMA’s office. I would like to introduce you to the great team that has already become a second family to me.

To give you an impression of this family, I have talked to three of the employees. I guide you through the thoughts of Marina, Florian, and Aparnaa. Marina is the founder of LEROMA and inspires us all every day with her vision and passion for this industry. She tells a customer on the phone, “It’s a heart and soul project.”

It seems like she’s not the only one who puts her heart and soul into it. When I ask my colleague Aparnaa, our marketing intern, what makes working at LEROMA so special, she replies: “Here we contribute to making the world a better place while reducing food waste.”

“It’s not hard to see that something needs to be done about the food industry,” Florian, our Sales Manager comments. “Only looking at the sector of raw materials, countless tons of still usable food is thrown away. The idea of working on the gradual solution to this problem is just fun for me. Even though I haven’t been with the company for long, my expectations have been met already.”

So it’s the ideal of a better world that unites all three of them. Marina’s desire to improve things began during her time in the food processing industry. Over and over again, she heard from companies how difficult it was to find the ideal raw material. So she built a digital platform to make their search as easy as possible. “A kind of Google for raw materials,” the platform aims to become.

When asked about the role of technology in the food industry, Marina answered without hesitation: “Only the process of digitalization and technology will lead to a solution to the world’s problems. To feed the growing civilization, we need to implement new ideas and technologies.” From Aparnaa`s answer, I can hear a similar attitude. She refers to the technology as an essential part of our lives. An easily accessible source of information that people and businesses around the world can connect to.

In fact, we have already seen many technical and digital solutions at the B2C level in the food industry. Automating daily routine has long been normal there. In contrast, in the B2B sector, we are still at the very beginning of digitalization in many respects. The team at LEROMA wants to be a part of the digital transformation in the B2B sector together. Florian and Aparnaa particularly appreciate the responsibility they are given on a daily basis.

“For me, start-up means a lot of responsibility, but at the same time a lot of creative freedom. I know that in order to learn quickly, you must be jumping in at the deep end – and this was just what I felt was right doing.” – Florian.

“I’m proud to be a part of raising awareness for an innovative and digital platform like LEROMA that helps improve the planet.” – Aparnaa.

With so much commitment, it’s no wonder that the whole team is already looking to the future. Florian, who is primarily focused on our Surplus Exchange, would like to see “this initiative pick up speed in the coming months and more and more companies understand that the Surplus Exchange is a win-win solution.”

We all hope that we meet the ravages of time and that we will positively impact the industry with our solution. Each one of us has his own personality, but we still stand up for common values. Above all, our entrepreneurial passion, authenticity, and curiosity stand out. We are a young team that asks a lot of questions and does our work with enthusiasm. Our passion to create a lasting impact on the industry is shaped daily by our intrinsic motivation with which we approach new projects. In doing so, we are always authentic and this is also reflected in our open interaction with each other. We are not afraid to openly question our ideas.

Together we want to realize LEROMA`s vision of a global network and sustainable B2B platform for food raw materials.

We wish you happy holidays!

Dutch Gum: The environmentally friendly answer to the waste problem of coffee production

Coffee is the second most consumed beverage in the world, with 2.6 billion cups consumed daily. However, its production also results in a significant amount of waste, around 20 million tonnes per year from coffee cherries. This is both damaging to the environment and a problem for manufacturers, who have to dispose of about 45% of the coffee cherries (also called cascara). For this reason, the company PectCof (Pectin from Coffee) has found a sustainable solution to this problem.
